User Installation Guide

Installation Process

Note: Please take a backup of your all Magento files and database before installing or updating any extension.

Download the extension file:
  1. Download the Customer Attributes extension .ZIP file from solwininfotech.com using your Solwin Infotech website account.
  2. Extract the .ZIP file which contains another .ZIP files.
  3. If you have purchased the extension for the Community Edition, then you will see the extension .ZIP file for Magento 2.1.x, Magento 2.2.x, Magento 2.3.x and Magento 2.4.x version.
    If you have purchased the extension for the Enterprise Edition, then you will see the extension .ZIP file for Magento 2.1.x and Magento 2.2.x and Magento 2.3.x version.
Extension Installation:

For Magento 2 Community Edition,

  1. If you are using Magento 2.1.x then you need to extract solwin-customerattribute-m2-2.1.x.zip file.
    If you are using Magento 2.2.x then you need to extract solwin-customerattribute-m2-2.2.x.zip file.
    If you are using Magento 2.3.x, Magento 2.4.x then you need to extract solwin-customerattribute-m2.zip file.

For Magento 2 Enterprise Edition,

  1. If you are using Magento 2.1.x then you need to extract solwin-customerattribute-m2-EE-2.1.x.zip file.
    If you are using Magento 2.2.x then you need to extract solwin-customerattribute-m2-EE-2.2.x.zip file.
    If you are using Magento 2.3.x then you need to extract solwin-customerattribute-m2-EE.zip file.

Following 2 to 6 steps are the same for Community and Enterprise edition.

  1. Copy the app folder and paste it into your magento ROOT directory.

  2. Run upgrade command as specified : php bin/magento setup:upgrade
  3. Clear the cache either from the admin panel or command line php bin/magento cache:clean
  4. Now, you can see the Solwin menu in admin panel. Please go to Solwin -> Customer Attributes -> Configuration and select Enable to Yes.
  5. Change/Set all other options as per your requirements and save settings.

To create a new customer attribute click on the 'Create New Attribute' button where you will get lots of configuration options. You have to fill certain fields such as Default Label, Default Value, and Attribute Code. Also, you have to select certain options from the drop-down menu which are Customer Input Type, Values Required, Visible On Frontend, Unique Value, Input Validation For Store Owner, Add Colum Options, and Use In Filter Option.

Customer Attribute – Edit Account Information

On the frontend, customers can see and update the custom attribute field on the Account edit page like the addition of address and selection of gender, and then press the 'Save' button.

On the frontend, on the customer's registration page, customers can see all the customer's attributes like First Name, Last Name, Email Address, etc. along with the newly created attributes 'Address' and 'Gender'. By filling all the fields and adding a password they have to click on the 'Create Account' button to create a new customer account.

In the backend under the Storefront Properties menu, you get some configurations where you have to set the Sort Order Option and enable 3 options - Show on the Customer Account Create Page, Customer Account Edit Page, and Admin Manage Customer's Add & Edit Page.

If you would like to enable this module, in the backend visit Solwin then under Customer Attribute you will get the Configuration menu. Here you will see the option to enable, just select the 'Yes' option from the drop-down menu.
